The United States of America (also briefly: United States, US) are in the continent America and are a federal republic in North America. It s capitol is Washington D.C. In the north it borders Canada and Mexico to the south. The United States of America have 50 states. Even Alaska, Hawaii, and a small part of the Oceania belong to the United States. Originally from 13 British colonies existing, 1776 the United States declared its independence. This day is called the Declaration of Independence and is celebrated.

In the United States of America the mostly spoken language is American English. In second place comes Spanish. Then are coming the others, depending on the origin. How diverse the nation is so diverse is their music and culture. The United States is the home of jazz, blues, country, hip hop, rock s s roll, R B and soul and various ethnic music. Thanks to the worldwide use of the English language and the huge Hollywood film industry this culture reaches every corner of the world.

Through immigration, industrialization and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States of America is the only superpower. You can see the United States as a melting pot of the international people. The native people were first Indians, then came first the Europeans after the discovery of Columbus. These were Spanish, French and English. Then came subsequently African Americans, Germans and Irish, Italians, Scandinavians and Eastern Europeans - mostly Jews. Approximately 5% of the population came from China, Japan and Korea (sometimes also from the Philippines and India). Today, it seems that about 70% of the population comes from Europe.


On 11 September 2001 the United States suffered terrorist attacks, and about 3,000 people died. The World Trade Center and Pentagon were hit. Since the date is called just as 9 / 11. This event led to radical military counter-measures by the United States ( war against terrorism ). Also, the security measures in the United States were strengthened. For example, entering the United States of America today has become much more difficult as before. On the other side were dozens of foundations established for this occasion.


The United States of America have good transport connections to all directions and with all means of transport: the most flights to cities like New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles are regularly. Maritime and rail are added. Furthermore, the United States attach great importance to advancement of science. This led the United States to get many patent rights and particularly Nobel Prizes were given to the natural sciences. Thus, the Wright brothers, Thomas Alva Edison and Cyrus McCormick only three of the many famous inventors of the United States. Nevertheless, the United States is still opposing the Kyoto Protocol, although they cause almost of all CO2 emissions in the world.
