Sweden is a parliamentary monarchy in Northern Europe. The head of the Kingdom of Sweden (Konungariket Sverige) is the king. The territory of the Kingdom comprises the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula and the two large islands of Gotland (about 3,000 km) and Öland (about 1,350 km) in the Baltic Sea. Furthermore, Sweden has many other small islands, a total of more than 220,000. Sweden is bordered to the Kattegat, Norway, Finland and the Baltic Sea. A feature of the Swedish countryside are the Scandinavian Mountains along the Norwegian border. The highest peaks of the Scandinavian Mountains is Kebnekaise with 2,111 meters and is situated in the north of the country.


Because Sweden is located near the Arctic Circle, is the difference between the long daylight in the summer and the long winter darkness considerably (polar night and polar day). Compared to other countries, Sweden has because of the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic a relatively mild climate.

Sweden has numerous rivers, fjords (mainly in the Swedish Central Valley), and many lakes.
The longest rivers are: Klar lven, Torne lv, Dal lven, Ume lv and ngerman lven and flow in the direction of the Baltic Sea. The lakes are: V nern, V ttern, M laren and Hj lmaren.

In Sweden, there are 28 national parks and protected large areas of natural protection areas. It is the first (1909) country, which in Europe has set up national parks. The largest are located in the northwest of the country. Sweden has diverse flora and fauna.
Most known is the Swedish Moose, mostly causes traffic accidents.

Sweden is a member of the Nordic Council since 1995 and a member of the European Union (EU). Sweden maintained the Swedish krona (SEK). The official language is Swedish. In Sweden, but also regional languages such as Finnish, Sami and Me nkieli etc. as well, are spoken. These are: Stockholm County, Gotland County, Blekinge County, V stmanland County, Dalarnas County, G vleborgs County, V sternorrlands County, J mtlands County, V sterbottens County, Norrbottens County, Sk ne County, Hallands County, Western Götaland County, V rmlands County, Örebro County, Uppsala County, Södermanlands County, Östergötland County, Jönköpings County, Kronobergs County and Kalmar County.

s economy can speak for itself, with large companies such as Ericsson, Electrolux, SKF, Tetra Pak, Alfa Laval, ABB, and the vehicle industry, such as Volvo, Scania and Saab.
The Famous brand IKEA was founded in Sweden and is now multinational. Shipping, space technology, mining, import and export of industrial goods and electrical and electronics industries are just a few successful headlines of Sweden.

Sweden is well known in art, architecture, film, music and literature. Some of these are: the writer and Nobel Prize winner Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940), director Ingmar Bergman, the many bands like ABBA, Roxette, The Cardigans, Ace of Base and Hammerstein and many other singers, over 100 historic palaces, castles and Buildings and the numerous nature reserves. The Ice Age river and landscape Rapadelta in the National Park Sarek belongs to the World Heritage Laponia and should necessarily be seen. Besides, in Laponia are in many other parks with natural and wild beauty.
