SYDNEY
Sydney has been the capital of the State of New South Wales of Australia since 1788. Sydney was named after the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Lord Sydney. Along with the perimeter of the metropolitan have a total of almost 4.5 million inhabitants (2005) and is the largest city of the Australian continent. This mostly flat major city lies on the east coast of the country and the Pacific Ocean. It has two inlets (with diversions), and two ports, of which the natural one, the Port Jackson is the most important one.
The Port Jackson, with its islands too, is the natural harbour of the city, where the bulk of Australia s foreign trade is settled. The two landmarks of the city, which is on Sydney s photographs always seen, are the Sydney Opera House (it is since 2007 a World Heritage) from the year 1973 and the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the year 1932.
Besides the Sydney Opera House, there are many other theatres, cinemas and pubs, where you can spend a good time. The State Theatre for example, the annual Sydney Film Festival , and many concerts, many good universities, museums, observatories, libraries, the Sydney Olympic Park , beach events, charming gardens, monuments and galleries; all are here.
Economically great facilities and production facilities are usually in the vicinity of the centre of the city stored. Especially in the suburbs, there are whole industry, commercial and financial centres and facilities for tourism. In the centre of the city, there are different shops. Many well-known brands have their branches in this city.
The culture on this continent has been shaped by the influences of various immigrant and today, albeit somewhat less, with the shapes of the native indigenous population. So there is also the seat of the Roman Catholic and Anglican Archbishop in Sydney. The inferior religions are the Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and others.
As on the entire continent is also in Sydney; mainly British cooked and eaten, just up to the western barbecue. There are also influences from the South East Asian countries. But, the Greek, Italian and Lebanese cuisine has a share of influence, too. Lately, even the native cuisine has a remarkable influence. In addition to the many kinds of usual fruit and vegetables, there are the regional fruits mango, maracuja, papaya and many other local passion fruits. These are due to the good weather conditions available in all seasons and will also gladly eaten.
Of the fish species are Barramundi (river fish), King Prawns (giant prawns), Sydney Rock Oysters (native rock oysters), Yabbies (river lobster), salmon and caviar on many menus in this port city. Seafood is an important part of the kitchen. For example, the Queensland Cancer with dips, crab rolls, Sashimi and Snapfish fillet with sauce, are just some of delicious dishes. Especially the restaurants and cafes in the harbour area, and those with a good view are often preferred of foreign visitors. Dining here often include Macadamia nuts, Bunya nuts, Kakadu plum, eucalyptus oil, beef, deer meat, pig meat, rabbit meat, lamb meat and even crocodile meat, but also chicken (also in baked clay), venison and duck. Additionally, in the restaurants with a regional taste indigenous vegetables and herbs are used and delicious dishes are prepared.
