CANBERRA
Canberra, the capital of Australia, is located in the Australian Capital Territory. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is located in the territory of New South Wales (NSW). Overall, Australia has nine territories. These territories and their abbreviations are as follows (alphabetical order): Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Jervis Bay Territory (JBT), New South Wales (NSW), Northern Territory (NT), Queensland (QLD), South Australia (SA), Tasmania (TAS), Victoria (VIC) and Western Australia (WA).
Canberra is the capital since 1927, and is also the eighth largest city in Australia. Here it is home to around 330,000 inhabitants. The city has seven districts. North East of the capital Canberra is Sydney and Melbourne is located southwest. Canberra has many rivers, of which the largest is the Molonglo River. This divides the city into two.

All four seasons can be seen in the capital because of the situation (in the 630 m high). Only the winter is less cold and snow falls relatively rare and little. The Canberra Nature Park and the many gardens in Canberra led to the name bush capital . It has also the very sylvan surroundings and is covered with many plants and eucalyptus savannahs, shrubs and swamps.
In the capital there is the Australian War Memorial at the ANZAC Parade. This memeorial was opened in 1965, in memory of the Battle of Gallipoli . There are numerous monuments. The ANZAC Day on 25 April is a national holiday in Australia (and in New Zealand). The official holiday of the city, however, the 10-day Canberra Day. The Car Festival (in early summer), the agricultural fair Royal Canberra Show (in February), the festival Celebrate Canberra before the ANZAC Day, the sports rugby, cricket, tennis, etc., are also important for Canberra.
In South Canberra are the old and the new parliament to seen, where in the old parliament also a part of the National Portrait Gallery will be shown. Also interesting are the National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy , the Memorial of captain James Cook, the 50-metre-high National Carillon on the Aspen Iceland and the National Zoo and Aquarium . Further southwest, Royal Australian Mint, the Premierminsters The Lodge , and including the buildings of the Ambassador and the Governor-General and some scientific research institutions.
The Duntroon House , the exhibition centre, the National Museum of Australia, Canberra Museum and Gallery, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and at the edge of the city the National Dinosaur Museum are worth seeing. The oldest church in the city, the St John the Baptist Church and historic houses from the 19th century are also worth seeing. Generally, we can say that there are many offices, public buildings and shopping facilities, and many residents Canberras are working for the government. The Llewellyn Hall, Street Theatre, Playhouse, Canberra Theatre and numerous libraries and concert halls contribute to the cultural life of the city.
